The AIU – Athletics Integrity Unit has banned India’s Gomathi Marimuthu for four year and also stripped off her 2019 Asian Athletics Championships gold medal for having tested positive for a banned substance.

According to reports, Steriod 19 the banned substance was found in all four samples’s of Gomathi, which were collected by National Anti-Doping Agency in Patiala during the Federation Cup held from 15th till 18th March 2019.

Due to the ban, all event results of Gomathi’s between 18th March 18 to 17th May 2019 stand disqualified. Thereby, all medals, titles, prizes, ranking points and including money received for appearance stand renounced.

Gomathi, has also been ordered to pay the AIU a total amount of £1000 within 28 days as for all the expenses incurred including legal fees.

AIU tribunal announcement include the following extracts:

  • “The Athlete violated ADR Articles 2.1 and 2.2, in that she had used a Prohibited Substance and that a metabolite of that Prohibited Substance was found to be present in her urine Samples.”
  • “Imposed a period of ineligibility of four years upon the athlete.” The period of ineligibility has been ordered to run from May 17, 2019 to May 16, 2023.
