Highlights & Analysis

  1. LukeRonchi came found some of the devastating form that has left many a bowling attack in tatters with a 23-ball fifty that saw him scoring a rapid fire 71 runs off just 37 deliveries. This, in turn, set up Islamabad United for a comfortable chase that they ended with 16 balls to spare. Ronchi’sonslaught in the Powerplay took a slow pitch out of the equation and the Karachi Kings out of the match.
  2. The Karachi Kings had posted a competitive total in the first innings. However, in hindsight, too many dot balls and too few boundaries had led to them not posting a winning total. Manzoor and Azam played 36% and 37% dot balls respectively through their innings’. The Islamabad batsmen paced their innings well and lessened the number of dot balls. They also took full advantage of the opening overs to score quickly and gave themselves a firm foothold in the chase.
  3. The bowling attack of the Karachi Kings was also not at its best. The opening bowlers bowled at the pads way too often and this played right into Luke Ronchi’s hands. Ronchi is brilliant towards the leg side and it was easy pickings for him as he dispatched several deliveries to the boundary with relative ease. Mohammed Amir, in particular, struggled during the Powerplay.
  1. Karachi Kings remain in second place, despite the loss, with seven points from five games. Islamabad United are one point behind in fourth place, having played similar number of matches.
