Zhang Yufei of China has set a new Asian Record in 100 meters butterfly swimming women’s category.

The 22 years old Yufei swam for 55.62 seconds to complete 100 meters during National Swimming Championships 2020 in Qingdao, China.

Based on her performance Yufei qualified for the Chinese National Team to participate in Tokyo Olympics 2020-21. In the past Yufei won the bronze medal during World Swimming Championship 2019.

The previous record was set by Liu Zige during Olympics 2008 with a timing of 56.47 seconds.

Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden holds the World Record in 100 meters with 55.48 seconds time.

The event commenced on 26th September and will culminate on 2nd October. The swimming tournaments kicked off with this event after 6 months suspension due to corona pandemic.
