The 2019–20 UEFA Champions League group stage began on 17th September 2019 and ended on 11th December 2019. A total of 32 teams from all over Europe, divided in 8 groups, competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the knockout stage of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League.

The final round of 16 teams competing for Quarter Final stage will be held in February 2020. Details in section – Round of 16.

Group A – Overview

 The Group A saw Paris Saint German coming out on top with no losses and one draw. Their only draw came against Real Madrid, that too made it to the round of 16 along with PSG.

 Real Madrid came second after a valuable draw with PSG. They, however, drew with Club Brugge once which affected their position. Both PSG and Real Madrid are through to the Round of 16 stage.

 Club Brugge managed to secure a place in the UEFA Europa League like every third placed team in every group does. Galatasaray and Club Brugge failed to provide any resistance against the top two teams.

Group B – Overview

 Bayern and Tottenham both make it to the round of 16. Bayern won six of its six games and topped the group comprehensively.

 Last year Runners up,Tottenham’s both the losses came against the mighty Bayern.

 Olympiacos and Crvena Zvezda both failed to show any resistance and ended amongst the bottom two, however, Olympiacos still managed to earn a place in the Europa League.

Group C – Overview

 Guardiola’s Manchester City showed a dominant performance without conceding any losses. It, along with Atlanta is through to the round of 16.

 The competition was between the last three where Atlanta’s important 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk proved to be vital as it led it to the round of 16 by a solitary point.

 Shakhtar, however, has earned a spot in the Europa League while Dinamo Zagreb stood last.

Group D – Overview

 Juventus and Atletico Madrid were the dominant forces of Group D who secured a spot in the round of 16. Juventus,however, topped the group without conceding any losses.

 Atletico recovered from its 1-2 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen by comprehensively beating Lokomotiv Moscow 2-0.

 Bayer Leverkusen earned a spot in the Europa League while Lokomotiv Moscow failed to put up any good show except for their 2-1 victory over Bayer.

Group E – Overview

 Defending Champions, Liverpool topped the group stage and qualified for the round of 16. Their only defeat came against Napoli who too made it to the next round rather easily.

 Red Bull was better of the last two teams who too made it to the Europa League.

 Genk failed to put up any good performances and just won just one point during their entire campaign.

Group F – Overview

 La Liga Champions, Barcelona as many would have anticipated topped the group stage without conceded any losses. It along with Borussia Dortmund made in to the round of 16.

 The key contest in this group was between Dortmund and Inter Milan where a 3-2 victory of Dortmund made almost sure for it to make it through. Inter Milan, however, earned a spot in the Europa League.

 Slavia Praha, on the hand could only accumulate 2 points without making any such impact in this group.

Group G – Overview

 RB Leipzig topped the group by accumulating 11 points.

 Lyon, Benfica and Zeint were seen to be fighting for the second spot where Lyon made it through by a point.

 Benfica made it to the Europa League while Zeint missed that by losing out to Benfica on goal difference.

Group H – Overview

 The pool which was the most evenly poised throughout was Group H, where Valencia’s crucial 1- 0 win in the last match of this group against Ajax proved to be vital in determining the group standings. Valencia along with Chelsea made it to the final 16.

 Last year’s surprise package, Ajax from Netherlands made it to the Europa League while closely missing out on the top 16.

 Lille, on the other hand, failed to put up any wooing performances and could only collect just one point

Round Of 16

The pairings for the top two teams that have made through from every group in the round of 16 decided through the basis of random draws. These draws were held on 16th December 2019 and the results of these draws are in the table below:

The round of 16 will start from 18th February onwards and the winner of each pairing will progress through to the quarter final stage.
