Wimbledon 2018 Highlights: Round of 128 – 2nd Half

Men’s Singles

Match: Bradley Klahn vs Yuichi Sugita

Summary: Yuichi Sugita took a perfect start as he gave a humiliating defeat to the American player, Bradley Klahn by a margin of four points. However, in the second set, a resilient battle was witnessed between the two as the set eventually came to a tie-breaker. But this time, Bradley Klahn won the set and the match moved on to the third set.

In the third set, Bradley Klahn took revenge and gave Yuichi Sugita a terrible defeat as he was not able to score more than two points. However, a similar defeat was faced by the Japanese in the next set and he ultimately failed to make it to the next round.   

Result: Bradley Klahn defeated Yuichi Sugita by 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-2, 6-2. Bradley Klahn will now face Kyle Edmund in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Rafael Nadal vs Dudi Sela

Summary: World No.1, Rafael Nadal easily dominated Dudi Sela in the first set by a margin of three points. However, in the next set, the Israeli player, Dudi Sela struggled hard but, despite his hard work and good efforts, he failed to win it in the end.

In the third set, Dudi Sela was playing brilliantly in the start but Rafael Nadal suddenly started scoring at a very fast pace. After some time, Rafael Nadal easily defeated him by a margin of four points and advanced to the next round.

Result: Rafael Nadal defeated Dudi Sela by 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. Rafael Nadal will now face Mikhail Kukushkin in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Matthew Ebden vs David Goffin

Summary: Although, David Goffin opened the scoring of the first set but he failed to win it in the end as the Australian player, Matthew Ebden scored the last two points in a quick succession. However, in the next set, David Goffin gave a tough fight to Matthew Ebden but, it was the Australian who again sealed his win in this set in the end by scoring the last three points at a very fast pace.

In the third set, David Goffin gave his best performance against his opponent but in the end, Matthew Ebden again won the set by a margin of two points and made it to the next round.

Result: Matthew Ebden defeated David Goffin by 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Matthew Ebden will now play against Stephane Robert in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Robin Haase vs Marius Copil

Summary: A sensational fight was seen between Robin Haase and Marius Copil throughout the match. The first set came on a tie-breaker after a tough fight, but Robin Haase won it in the end. However, again a brilliant effort was shown from both the players in the second set but in the end, the Romanian player, Marius Copil again lost it by two points.

In the third set, Marius Copil came in action as he dominated the Frenchmen, Robin Haase in the end by a margin of two points. However, Robin Haase won the next set on the tie-breaker and sealed his place into the next round.

Result: Robin Haase defeated Marius Copil by 7-6(0), 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4). Robin Haase will now face Nick Kyrgios in the round of 64 of the Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Frances Tiafoe vs Fernando Verdasco

Summary: Both the players showed an outclass performance in all the sets. The American player, Frances Tiafoe and Fernando Verdasco gave their best in the first set as it eventually came to a tie-breaker. However, Frances Tiafoe won on the tie break and the match came to the second set. A tough battle was again witnessed in the second set as it came to a tie-break. But again Frances Tiafoe won this time.

The third set started and Fernando Verdasco came in action as he eventually won the set by a margin of three points. However, Frances Tiafoe took revenge in the fourth set as he dominated Fernando Verdasco by three points in the end.

Result: Frances Tiafoe defeated Fernando Verdasco by 7-6(6), 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3. Frances Tiafoe will now face Julien Benneteau in his next round of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Matteo Berrettini vs Jack Sock

Summary: What an exquisite performance was witnessed between Matteo Berrettini and Jack Sock throughout the match. Both the players gave their best performance in the first set as it eventually came to a tie-breaker. Jack Sock won it on the tie-break as Matteo Berrettini lost some points on his serve. However, Matteo Berrettini again faced defeat in the second set on the tie-breaker and the match came to the third set.

In the third set, the American player, Jack Sock was playing confidently but Matteo Berrettini suddenly started scoring points quickly and soon won the set by two points in the end. However, Matteo Berrettini continued his winning ways and again gave defeat to the American player by leading two points upfront in the fourth set. However, Jack Sock lost the fifth set too and got out of the Wimbledon 2018.

Result: Matteo Berrettini defeated Jack Sock by 6-7(5), 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5, 6-2. Matteo Berrettini will now face Gilles Simon in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Simone Bolelli vs Pablo Cuevas

Summary: An eye catching performance was witnessed between Simone Bolelli and Pablo Cuevas in all the three sets. After a tough fight in the first set, the set eventually came to a tie-breaker. The Italian, Simone Bolelli won the set on the tie-break in the end as Pablo Cuevas lost some points on his serve. In the second set, a tough battle was again witnessed between the two players, as the set again came to a tie-breaker.

However, this time it was again Simone Bolelli who sealed his win in this set and the match moved to the third set. Pablo Cuevas got into pressure after his loss in both the sets and faced a humiliating defeat in the third set as he was not able to score more than a point throughout the match.

Result: Simone Bolelli defeated Pablo Cuevas by 7-6(5), 7-6(8), 6-1. Simone Bolelli will now face Fabio Fognini in the next round of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Stephane Robert vs Albert Ramos Vinolas

Summary: Stephane Robert and Albert Ramos Vinolas both put up a good fight in the first set as the set eventually came to a tie-breaker after the scores were levelled at 6-6. But in the end, the French player, Stephane Robert sealed his win and the match advanced to the next set.

However, in the next set, the Spaniard player, Albert Ramos Vinolas struggled hard to win this set but again he faced a terrific defeat as he was not able to score more than two points against Stephane Robert. Bad luck continued for Albert Ramos Vinolas as he again faced a humiliating defeat from the Frenchmen, Stephane Robert in the third set as Albert Ramos was only able to score a single point throughout the set.

Result: Stephane Robert defeated Albert Ramos Vinolas by 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-1. Stephane Robert will now play against Matthew Ebden in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Novak Djokovic vs Tennys Sandgren

Summary: An absolute and outstanding performance was witnessed by Novak Djokovic in all the three sets. Tennys Sandgren put up a good fight in the first set but Novak Djokovic easily dominated him as the American player, Tennys Sandgren failed to score more than a total of three points throughout the set.

In the second set, Novak Djokovic gave his best performance as he did not let Tennys Sandgren make more than a point throughout the set. Novak Djokovic continued his winning ways as he again gave a terrible defeat to Tennys Sandgren in the third set by a margin of four points.

Result: Novak Djokovic defeated Tennys Sandgren by 6-3, 6-1, 6-2. Novak Djokovic will now play against Horacio Zeballos in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Marcos Baghdatis vs Dominic Thiem

Summary: Despite facing a tough fight in the first set, the Cypriot player, Marcos Baghdatis won it in the end as he scored the last two points in a quick succession. However, the Austrian star player, Dominic thiem again gave a tough fight to Marcos Baghdatis in the second set but again he lost it as Dominic got injured in the end of the set.

However, Dominic Thiem continued to play the third set but after some time, he stopped the game and took retirement from the Wimbledon 2018. It was a major upset at the start of Wimbledon and for Dominic Thiem fans.

Result: Marcos Baghdatis defeated Dominic Thiem by 6-4, 7-5, 2-0. Marcos Baghdatis will now face Karen Khachanov in his next round of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Julien Benneteau vs Marton Fucsovics

Summary: Although, the Hungarian Tennis player, Marton Fucsovics opened the scoring of the first set but he failed to win it in the end as the Frenchmen, Julien Benneteau scored the last two points in a quick succession. In the second set, Julien Benneteau again faced a tough fight from Marton Fucsovics but, Julien Benneteau again sealed his win in this set in the end by scoring the last two points at a very fast pace.

In the decisive set, Julien Benneteau gave Marton Fucsovics a terrible defeat as Marton was only able to score a total of three points throughout the set.

Result: Julien Benneteau defeated Marton Fucsovics by 7-5, 7-5, 6-3. Julien Benneteau will now play against the American star player, Frances Tiafoe in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

Women’s Singles

Match: Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Petra Kvitova

Summary: The Belarus player, Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Petra Kvitova both were scoring points confidently in the first set. However, in the end, Petra Kvitova dropped some points on her serve which led to her loss in the first set. However, in the second set, again a tough battle was seen between the two players, and this time the Czech star player, Petra Kvitova claimed her win.

In the third set, Petra Kvitova faced a humiliating defeat as she was not able to score a single point against Aliaksandra Sasnovich throughout the set, and eventually failed to make it to the next round.

Result: Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated Petra Kvitova by 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Aliaksandra Sasnovich will now play against Taylor Townsend in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018

 

Match: Yulia Putintseva vs Magda Linette

Summary: Yulia Putintseva gave a terrible defeat to Magda Linette in the opening set of the match as Magda Linette was only able to score a total of three points throughout the set. However, in the second set, Yulia Putintseva faced a terrific defeat as she was only able to make a total of three points throughout the set this time.

However, in the decisive set, a tough battle was witnessed between Yulin and Magda Linette. But eventually, Yulia Putintseva claimed the victory in the decisive set by scoring the last two points in a quick succession.

Result: Yulia Putintseva defeated Magda Linette by 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Yulia Putintseva will now play against Daria Kasatkina in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Vitalia Diatchenko vs Maria Sharapova

Summary: The Russian player, Vitalia Diatchenko and Maria Sharapova both gave each other a tough fight in the first set as it eventually came to a tie-breaker. However, in the end, Maria Sharapova won it on the tie-break and the match moved on to the second set. In the second set, again a tough fight was witnessed between them as it too came to a tie-breaker. But this time Vitalia Diatchenko grabbed the victory.

The match came to the decisive set. Vitalia Diatchenko not only took the lead but she dominated the Russian player, Maria Sharapova after a tough fight, as Maria Sharapova dropped the last two points in a succession.

Result: Vitalia Diatchenko defeated Maria Sharapova by 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 6-4. Vitalia Diatchenko will now play against the American player Sofia Kenin in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Garbine Muguruza vs Naomi Broady

Summary: In the first set, the British player struggled hard, but despite her hard work and good efforts, Naomi Broady faced a humiliating defeat from the Spaniard, Garbine Muguruza in the end by four points. A nail-biting competition was witnessed in the second set between Garbine Muguruza and Naomi Broady as both were scoring points quickly one after the other. However, in the end, the Spaniard won the set by scoring the last two points in a quick succession and finally made it to the next round.

Result: Garbine Muguruza defeated Naomi Broady by 6-2, 7-5. Garbine Muguruza will now play against Alison Van Uytvanck in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Daria Kasatkina vs Jana Fett

Summary: The Russian star player, Daria Kasatkina gave a terrible defeat to the Croatian player, Jana Fett in the first set as Jana Fett was not able to score more than a total of two points. However, in the second set, Jana Fett gave a tough fight to Daria Kasatkina but, still Daria Kasatkina won the second set in the end as she scored the last two points in a quick succession.

Although, the 21-year old, Daria Kasatkina made a total of nine double faults as compared to Jana Fett who made a total of eight double faults, but still she faced defeat in both the sets.

Result: Daria Kasatkina defeated Jana Fett by 6-2, 7-5. Daria Kasatkina will now play against Yulia Putintseva in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Kaia Kanepi

Summary: A tough fight was witnessed in the first set between Kaia Kanepi and Sara Sorribes Tormo as the set eventually came to a tie-breaker. However, Sara Sorribes Tormo won the set on the tie-break as Kaia Kanepi dropped some points on her serve.

In the second set, Sara Sorribes Tormo gave a humiliating defeat to Kaia Kanepi as she failed to score more than a single point throughout the set.

Although, Kaia Kanepi made a total of six double faults as compared to Sara Sorribes Tormo who made a total of eight double faults but still, Sara Sorribes Tormo won both the sets and made it to the next round.

Result: Sara Sorribes Tormo defeated Kaia Kanepi by 7-6(5), 6-1. Sara Sorribes Tormo will now play against the Spaniard, Carla Suarez Navarro in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Elise Mertens vs Danielle Rose Collins

Summary: The Belgian player, Elise Mertens gave an absolute and outclass performance today as she gave a terrific defeat in the first set to Danielle Rose Collins, who was not able to make more than three points throughout the set.

However, the American player, Danielle Rose Collins struggled hard in the next set, but still she failed to win the second set too and eventually faced a humiliating defeat in the end as she failed to score more than two points throughout the set.

Result: Elise Mertens defeated Danielle Rose Collins by 6-3, 6-2. Elise Mertens will now play against Sachia Vickery in her next round of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Johanna Konta vs Natalia Vikhlyantseva

Summary: What a sensational fight was witnessed between Johanna Konta and Natalia Vikhlyantseva in the first set. However, in the end, Johanna Konta scored the last two points in a quick succession and won the set. In the second set, again a tough battle was seen between the two, as the set eventually came to a tie-breaker after the scores were equalized 6-6.

But in the end, it was Johanna Konta who sealed her win again in the second set on the tie-break and made it to the next round. Johanna Konta made a total of four double faults while on the other hand, Natalia Vikhlyantseva made a total of nine double faults which costed her the match.

Result: Johanna Konta defeated Natalia Vikhlyantseva by 7-5, 7-6(7). Johanna Konta will now play against Dominika Cibulkova in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Simona Halep vs Kurumi Nara

Summary: The World No.1, Simona Halep gave a humiliating defeat to Kurumi Nara in both the sets. However, Kurumi Nara took the lead in the opening set but the Romanian, Simona Halep recovered the points quickly and eventually won the set by a margin of four points.

In the second set, Kurumi Nara gave a tough fight to Simona Halep as she was scoring points at a very fast pace. But in the end, it was the world no.1, who claimed the victory in the second set and made it to the next round.

Result: Simona Halep defeated Kurumi Nara by 6-2, 6-4. Simona Halep will now face Zheng Saisai in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Naomi Osaka vs Monica Niculescu

Summary: The Japanese player, Naomi Osaka showed an outstanding performance throughout the match. In the first set, both the players played at their best but in the end, the Romanian player, Monica Niculescu failed to win the set as she dropped the last two points in a quick succession.

In the second set Naomi Osaka gave his best as she did not let Monica Niculescu to score a single point throughout the set. Although, Naomi Osaka made a total of three double faults as compared to Monica Niculescu who made only one, but still it was Naomi Osaka who made it to the next round.

Result: Naomi Osaka defeated Monica Niculescu by 6-4, 6-1. Naomi Osaka will now play against Katie Boulter in the round of 64 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Match: Katie Boulter vs Veronica Cepede Royg

Summary: An absolute and exquisite performance was witnessed between Katie Boulter and Veronica Cepede Royg throughout the match. The British player, Katie Boulter gave defeat to Veronica Cepede Royg in the first set as Veronica Cepede failed to score the last two points first. However, in the second set, the Paraguayan, Veronica Cepede Royg fought well and eventually won the second set in the end as she scored the last two points in a quick succession.

The match now came to the decisive set. In the decisive set, both the players again gave each other a tough time but eventually, the British player, Katie Boulter won this set as she scored the last two points quickly.
