Highlights & Analysis
  • It was a match between West Indies and the World XI in order to gather funds for the  damage of Hurricane Irma and Maria in 2017.
  • World XI Vs West Indies was held in the historic ground i.e Lords in London. World XI consisted of every player from a cricketing nation which faced a full West Indies T20 squad.
  • So, the toss was won by World XI and their captain Shahid Afridi chose to field first. WI openers Evin Lewis and the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle came out to bat.
  • Mitchell McClenaghan was given the new ball as the 1st innings went underway. Gayle looked to play dots and settle, meanwhile Evin Lewis attacked from the other end.
  • This went on for 7 overs, but it was Rashid Khan who came to bowl in teh 8th over and immediately struck as he pinned Lewis lbw on his 5th delivery.
  • Andre Fletcher now joined Chris Gayle on the crease. Gayle was looking to fire off any time now but it didn’t happen as Shoaib Malik struck in the 11th  over to send the big man back to the pavilion.
  • And, in the very next over Afridi struck on his very first ball to send Fletcher back to the pavilion. World XI Vs West Indies would have become quite one-sided if another wicket fell.
  • But, that didn’t happen as Dinesh Ramdin and Marlon Samuels shared a 52-run partnership to set up a big target for Windies.
  • Even after Samuels got out, Russell and Ramdin completed the job as WI managed to score 199 runs from 20 overs.
  • Now, it was  time for the 2nd innings. And, World XI sent in their openers namely Tamim Iqbal and Luke Ronchi to open the innings for them.
  • Badree opened the bowling for WI. Both openers could only manage 3 runs off the spinner’s 1st over. Now, Andre Russell was given the ball and he struck in his 1st over to send Tamim Iqbal back to the pavilion.
  • This was only the start as Samuel Badree bowled a double wicket maiden in the 3rd over and World XI were now 3 down for only 8 runs.
  • It didn’t end there as Sam Billings fell in the very next over as Russell claimed his 2nd wicket of the match.
  • Malik now joined Perera but after only managing 12 runs off the bat, he gave his wicket to Carlos Brathwaite and World XI were now 5 wickets down.
  • Afridi joined Perera as the pair added valuable runs to put World XI back on track. But not for long as as Afridi gave a simple catch to midwicket in the 13th over as he returned to the pavilion after only scoring 11 runs.
  • Perera and Rashid remained on the crease for a while but it was onlya matter of time as Kesrick Williams returned for this 3rd over to send them both back to the pavilion.
  • Lamichhane and McClenaghan were now on the crease and World XI were now 8 wickets down with Tymal Mills retired hurt.
  • So, WI only needed 1 wicket to win. And it was Ashley Nurse who took a blinder to dismiss McClenaghan and WI won the match by 72-runs.
