Final Overview

Hamza Mawaz Khan emerged as hero of the main final as he fired in five fabulous goals while he was ably supported by foreign players Tito Ruiz Guinazu and Elena Venot, who cotributed with two and three goals respectively while Babar Nadeem converted one goal. For Master Paints/Newage Cables, Simon Prado hammered a hat-trick while Juan Cruz Greguol banged in a brace and Raja Temur Nadeem scored one goal.  

BN Polo were off to flying start in the grand finale as they thrashed in three goals – two by Hamza and one by Tito Ruiz – to take a 3-0 lead while Master Paints/Newage’s Simon Prado converted one before the end of the first chukker to make it 1-3. Prado added one more in his team’s tally in the beginning of the second chukker to further reduce the margin to 2-3. But BN bounced back well by banging in a brace – one each by Hamza and Tito Ruiz – to stretch their lead to 5-2.  

The third chukker began with a field goal by Raja Temur that helped MP/Newage make it 3-5 but BN Polo converted two back-to-back goals through Hamza and Babar to enhance their lead to 7-3. The highly-charged fourth chukker saw BN Polo cracked a quartet – two by Elena and one each by Tito and Hamza – to gain a healthy 11-3 lead while MP/Newage scored three goals – two by Greguol and one by Prado – to reduce the deficit to 6-11. In the fifth and decisive chukker, BN Polo struck the only goal through Elena Venot to win the historic event by 12-6.

Earlier in the Subsidiary Final, Team FG Polo outpaced DS Polo by 10-6. For FG Polo, Juan Ambroggio emerged as top scorer with a contribution of five goals while Abbas Mukhtar struck a hat-trick and Ramiro Zavaleta banged in a brace. For DS Polo, Javier Gurrero thrashed in three goals while Hissam Ali Hyder scored two and Bilal Haye hit one goal.

Semi’s Day 10 | Hamza’s Powerplay & Simon’s Magic Breezes Teams Into Finals

BN Polo and Master Paints/Newage Cables breezed into the main final of the Century Ventures National Open Polo Championship for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2023 after winning their respective semifinals played at Lahore Polo Club. 

Semifinal 1High-flying Hamza Breezes BN Polo Into Final 

BN Polo defeated Diamond Paints 9-6. From BN Polo, Hamza Mawaz Khan played tremendous polo and smashed in superb six goals while Juan Ruiz Guinazu hammered a hat-trick. For Diamond Paints, Chulo Corti thrashed in three goals while Nico Roberts banged in a brace and Mir Huzaifa Ahmed scored one goal. 

BN Polo began the match with two back-to-back goals to gain a 2-0 lead, while Diamond Paints also struck one to reduce the margin to 2-1. They played well in the second chukker by banging in a brace against one by BN Polo to level the score at 3-3. Diamond Paints scored one more in the start of the third chukker to earn a 4-3 lead, but BN bounced back brilliantly by hammering a hat-trick to take a 6-4 lead.  

Both the teams converted one goal each in the fourth chukker, with BN still enjoying a 7-5 lead while in the fifth and decisive chukker, BN Polo scored two goals against one by Diamond Paints to win the match by 9-6.

Semifinal 2 – Simon Prada shines in Master Paints/New Win 

Master Paints/Newage Cables beat Master Paints by 7-6. From Master Paints/Newage Cables, Simon Prada did the magic with mallet and polo pony and slammed in all the seven goals. For Master Paints, Manuel Crespo pumped in three goals while Pelayo Berrazadi banged in a brace and Agha Musa Ali Khan struck one goal. 

Both the teams were off to a flying start as they thrashed in two goals each to level the score at 2-2. The second chukker was also evenly poised but this time, they scored one goal each to equalize the score at 3-3. Master Paints/Newage played better polo in the third chukker by hammering two goals against one by Master Paints to get a slight 5-4 edge but in the very next chukker, Master Paints converted one to level the score at 5-5.  

Master Paints/Newage once against took a 6-5 lead in the beginning of the fifth chukker, which couldn’t last long as Master Paints also scored an equalizer to make it 6-6. In the dying moments of the match Simon Prada smashed in the match-winning goal to steer Master Paints/Newage to a thrilling 7-6 victory.

Penalty Shootout Overviews

The penalty shootouts were played among three teams including Diamond Paints, FG Polo and DS Polo. From Diamond Paint, Chulo Corti managed to convert three penalties out of four to help the side emerge as triumphant. From FG Polo, Ramiro Zavaleta could slam in only one out of four penalties while from DS Polo, Javier Gurrero failed to convert a single one.

Diamond Paints became the fourth semi-finalist in Century Ventures National Open Polo Championship for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2023 under the auspices of Lahore Polo Club. According to the details, there was a penalty shootout between the three teams, Diamond Pants, DS Polo and FG Polo, who were equal on the points table yesterday, in which the Diamond Pants team was the winner.

Romero Zioletta scored a 60-yard penalty for FG Polo in the penalty shootout yesterday. Javier Guerra from DS Polo failed to score a single goal while Cholu Corti from Diamond Pants won the match by scoring three goals.

Day 8 | Master Paints First Finalist

Master Paints qualified for the semifinals of the Century Ventures National Open Polo Championship for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2023, played at the Lahore Polo Club.

As the three teams – Diamond Paints, FG Polo and DS Polo, won two matches each and also earned four points each, thereby, the shoot out will take place to decide the fourth semifinalist team.

Match 15 – Master Paints Rollover 12-6 Win over HN Polo

In the first match, Master Paints defeated HN Polo by 12-6. From Master Paints, Manuel Crespo played a great game and smashed superb six goals while Pelayo Berrazadi hammered a hat-trick, Sufi Muhammad Haroon banged in a brace and Agha Musa Ali Khan scored one goal. For HN Polo, Raja Muhammad Mikael Sami thrashed in three goals, Santiago Loza scored two goals and Haider Naseem struck one.

Master Paints started the match in great style as they converted a field goal to take a 1-0 lead. HN Polo made a strong comeback with three back-to-back goals to gain a 3-1 lead. Master Paints first scored the only goal of the second chukker to make it 2-3 and then hammered a hat-trick in the third chukker to get back a 5-3 lead.

In the fourth chukker, HN Polo bounced back in style and thrashed in three goals against one by Master Paints to level the score at 6-6. The fifth and decisive chukker saw the total dominance of Master Paints, who smashed in superb six goals to win the match by 12-6, thus also qualifying for the semifinals.

Match 16 – FG Polo’s 6-4 victory against Diamond Paints

Diamond Paints team missed the opportunity to qualify for the semifinals directly as they lost the important match against FG Polo by 4-6. For FG Polo, Juan Ambroggio hammered three goals while Mian Abbas Mukhtar struck a brace and Ramiro Zavaleta scored one goal. For Diamond Paints, Chulo Corti scored two goals, Ahmed Ali Tiwana and Mir Huzaifa Ahmed hit one goal apiece.

FG Polo made a tremendous start in the match with two back-to-back goals to earn a 2-0 lead. They added two more goals in the second chukker to have a 4-0 lead but Diamond Paints then made their presence felt by thrashing in three back-to-back goals to reduce the deficit to 3-4. The only goal of the third chukker was converted by FG Polo that helped them enhance their lead to 5-3. In the fourth chukker, Diamond Paints struck one more to reduce the margin to 4-5 but FG Polo added one more in their tally, taking their lead to 6-4. No more goals were scored after that, thus FG Polo winning the match by 6-4.

Match 13 – BN Polo Wins Against Remounts

A thrilling encounter in which BN Polo defeated Remounts by a narrow margin of 8-7. Baber Naseem was the hero of the match as he hammered an impressive hat-trick in BN Polo’s victory while Tito Ruiz Guinazu and Hamza Mawaz Khan banged in a brace each while Elena Venot contributed one goal. For Remounts, Shahid Imran, Jota Chavanne and Sawar Naeem thrashed in two goals each while Manuel Sundblad struck one. 

Both the teams – BN Polo and Remounts – started well but BN Polo played comparatively better polo and finished the first chukker, having a slight 3-2 lead. The only goal of the second chukker was converted by Remounts that helped them equalize the score at 3-3. The third chukker was identical to the first one where once again BN Polo managed to score three goals against two by Remounts to gain a minor 6-5 lead.  

Remounts started playing aggressively in the fourth chukker that helped them slam in two goals against one BN Polo to draw the blood at 7-7. Both the sides fought well in the fifth and decisive chukker but BN Polo succeeded in smashing in the match-winning goal through Elena Venot, who fired in a fantastic field goal to power her side to a well-deserving 8-7 win.

Match 12 – Master Paints/Newage Scores Easy Win Over DS Polo

A one-sided affair, Master Paints/Newage Cables comfortably beat DS Polo by 9-5. From Master Paints/Newage, Juan Cruz Greguol played extremely well and smashed six superb goals while Simon Prada hammered an inspiring hat-trick. For DS Polo, Hissam Ali Hyder thrashed in three goals and Javier Guererro struck two goals.  

The match started well by both the teams, who managed to convert two goals each to equalize the score at 2-2 but just before the end of the first chukker, Master Paints/Newage fired in a field goal to take a slight 3-2 lead. DS Polo beat Remounts 11-7, thanks to hero of the day Hissam Ali Hyder, who played brilliant polo for DS Polo and smashed in six superb goals while Javier Guerrero hammered a hat-trick and Daniyal Shaikh banged in a brace. Manuel Sundblad fired in four goals while Jota Chavanne thrashed in three goals for Remounts.

DS Polo players once again did well with mallets and ponies in the fourth chukker and converted a brace against one by Remounts to stretch their lead to 9-6. In the fifth and last chukker, DS Polo once again banged in a brace against one by Remounts to win the match by 11-7.

In the second match of the day, Hamza Mawaz Khan’s heroics helped BN Polo beat Master Paints/Newage Cables by a narrow margin of 6-5. Hamza Mawaz Khan played a great game and pumped in five fabulous goals for BN Polo while the remaining one was converted by Tito Ruiz Guinazu. For Master Paints/Newage Cables, Simon Prado cracked a quartet while Juan Cruz Greguol hit one.

The first two chukkers of the match were evenly poised as both the sides fought well against each and first converted one goal each in the first chukker and then banged in a brace each in the second chukker to level the score at 3-3. BN Polo made the difference in the third chukker as they thrashed in two back-to-back goals to gain a slight 5-3 lead, but Master Paints/Newage also played well and struck one to reduce the deficit to 4-5.  

The only goal of the fourth chukker was converted by BN Polo that helped them stretch their lead to 6-4. In the fifth and last chukker, Master Paints/Newage though converted one to make it 5-6, but it was all that they could get from the match as BN Polo won the thrilling encounter by 6-5.

FG Polo and BN Polo registered contrasting victories on the fourth day of the Century Ventures National Open Polo Championship for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2023 at the Lahore Polo Club.

Two matches of this pool will be played on Sunday after which the position of both the pools will be cleared. Remounts will take on DS Polo at 1:30pm while Master Paints/Newage Cables will vie against BN Polo at 3:30pm. 

Match 7Ambroggio star of FG Polo’s 7-6 thrilling triumph against DS Polo 

Juan Gustavo Ambroggio excelled in the FG Polo’s nail-biting 7-6 triumph over DS Polo in the first match of the day. Ambroggio played phenomenal polo and fired in four fabulous goals for the winning side while his teammates Ramiro Zavaleta banged in a brace and Mian Abbas Mukhtar converted one goal. Hissam Ali Hyder also played well for DS Polo and contributed with four fantastic goals while his teammates Javier Guerrero and Daniyal Shaikh scored one goal each.

FG Polo were off to a flying start as they hammered two goals each in the first and second chukkers to take a healthy 4-0 lead. DS Polo bounced back in the third chukker by thrashing in three goals against one by FG Polo, who were still enjoying a 5-3 lead by the end of the third chukker. The fourth chukker saw FG Polo adding two more goals in their tally against one by DS Polo to have a 7-4 lead. DS Polo though dominated the entire fifth chukker and pumped in two back-to-back goals to make it 6-7 but they couldn’t score more, thus losing the match by 6-7.

Match 8 – Tito Ruiz steers BN Polo to 10-7 win over HN Polo 

BN Polo scored 10-7 victory over HN Polo in the second match of the day. Tito Ruiz played outstanding polo and smashed in superb five goals while Baber Naseem cracked a classic quartet and Hamza Mawaz Khan converted one goal. For HN Polo, Santiago Loza emerged as top scorer with four goals while Raja Mikail Sami, Raja Jalal Arslan and Haider Naseem converted one goal each.

HN Polo though started the match well by banging in a beautiful brace to take a 2-0 lead but just before the end of the first chukker, BN Polo struck one to reduce the margin to 1-2. The second chukker was evenly poised as both the sides scored two goals each with HN Polo still having a 4-3 lead. BN Polo played better polo in the third chukker and converted two goals against one by HN Polo to equalize the score at 5-5.  

BN Polo turned the tables of the match in the fourth chukker where they thrashed in four goals against one by HN Polo to take a healthy 9-6 lead. The last chukker saw both the teams scoring one goal each, thus BN Polo winning the match by 10-7.
